The apartment. is located in the historic centre of the town, amongst its small, winding picturesque alleys. You do not need a car as everything can be reached on foot or by Ape Taxi, but if you are driving to us, especially during July and August, it may take a while to find a space in the evening and it is advisable not to move your car once parked as parking can be difficult to find again!
BY AIR:
LAMEZIA International Airport is around 20km to the north and a twenty five minute drive from Pizzo. We recommend you take a taxi (we can organise a pick up service) or rent a car at the airport (pre booking online is always much cheaper, we also recommend you rent a small car for Pizzo!) Alternatively, there is a bus shuttle service from the Airport to Lamezia Train Station where trains run directly to Pizzo regularly, however, it is a 15 minute walk uphill from the station to the historic centre and taxis do not wait at the station (again, we can arrange for you to be picked up, see below).
NAPLES Airport. It’s a short bus ride from Naples airport to the Train Station where you can catch a train direct to Pizzo and another with a change at Lamezia. If you are hiring a car you can pick it up directly outside Lamezia railway station. The train journey from Naples is Lovely!!
BY TRAIN:
Pizzo has two train stations:
"Pizzo" on the local line is the closest, located along the road from the Marina (about 1km from the town centre). It is served by local trains to and from Lamezia Terme, Tropea, Gioia Tauro, and Reggio Calabria. During summer, it is also served by larger trains from Naples, Rome and other Northern cities.
The second and larger station is "Vibo Valentia - Pizzo" on the Tyrrhenian line. It is a few km up the hills between Pizzo and Vibo Marina. Fast trains and Intercity trains stop here coming from Naples, Rome, Florence, Turin, Milan, Venice and other Northern cities, as well as from towns in Calabria and Sicily. For more information, visit TrenItalia’s website.
We can organise pick-up service from both stations on your request (there are NO Taxis waiting at these stations!)
BY CAR:
From the North: (e.g. Lamezia, Catanzaro, Salerno)
- Take the autostrada A2"Autostrada del Mediterraneo" direction "Reggio Calabria"
(also "Reggio" or "RC").
- Leave the autostrada at exit "Pizzo".
- Then, follow the directions to "Pizzo" along the coastal road SS 522 - Via Riviera Prangi for about 6 km.
From the South: (e.g. Reggio, Sicily):
- Take the autostrada A2"Autostrada del Mediterraneo" direction "Salerno".
- For simplicity, we recommend you ignore the exit "Vibo Valentia - Sant’Onofrio -Pizzo” and take the next exit “Pizzo”
- Then, follow the directions to "Pizzo" along the coastal road SS 522 Via Riviera Prangi for about 6 km.
Note: when you come off the autostrada, the road loops under the high level rail way bridge. Make sure you take the road to the right after you pass under the bridge for the second time, direction “Pizzo”, “Parghelia”, “Tropea”.
As you arrive in Pizzo:
The road rises rapidly from the sea and follows a tight S bend passing a large white church (San Francesco Di Paola) to the left at the top of the hill. Make sure you follow the road to the righthere, direction “Vibo Marina”, “Briatico”, “Tropea” (it is easy to turn left and continue up the hill). The road will start to descend and you will find the car parks approx 40m further down the road on the right hand side, blue sign “P”
Parking
The Car Park is NOT well signed so drive slowly and look out for the blue sign “P” on the right hand side. Don’t be intimidated by busy (and mostly impatient) local drivers!
The car parks are on 2 levels, both below street level. If you find a space on the first level (See map above: 1.) take it as this is free parking and the walk to the apartment is not that far. Otherwise follow the road round to the lower level (See map above: 2.) and park up close to San Domenico restaurant. Parking here costs €1 per hour during July and August (Free Mtonday to Friday for the rest of the year, cash or pay by phone), but it is closer to the apartment. Once you have checked in you can then look for alternative free parking.
If you have a car, free parking in the historic center can be difficult to find, especially in July and August, so once you find a space, leave your car there, everything is within walking distance of the apartment!
